Your Beliefs Don't Mean Anything | Substack

Ideology has become a brand, normatively as valuable as a flag waved to signal who one views oneself as and why that is good compared to their neighbors. Political views, in the case of the layman, the grocer, the student, the family, the contemporary person, have no real intellectual fervor. At best, their views are informed by raw, unexamined experience. At worst, they are the outcome of unfettered lies, exaggerations and mythical fantasies. Humanity has been given a license to see only that which inflicts themselves, and disregard literally every other aspect of the living universe. Everyone suffers from main character syndrome, to the point that even meta-self reflection about being the main character has become a plot device in our lives.
