Opinion: You can be queer any way you want

You may not know this, but Pride Month comes with a kind of baggage that even the most ardent allies may be totally unaware of. A kind of unique anxiety strikes the heart of some queer people, not in the form of homophobia from an unaccepting parent or the ostracization from friends, professional peers and superiors, but from the LGBTQ+ community itself.

A fear that we, as queer people, are limited by new stratifications set up by those who broke down the barriers of traditional gender expectations to begin with. But our forebearers did not fight for their rights so that they could replace the existential structures that oppressed them, and neither should we.
