Opinion: The light rail fare system is absurd | The Niner Times

Every major transit system in America enforces its fares differently. Typically, a series of gates that riders can tap into, possibly followed by a guard or two to ensure that passengers are playing fair—tapping in, tapping out and on their way. But in Charlotte, our fare enforcement is more of an empty threat, and barely that, which results in these awkward and far too infrequent invasions of passenger privacy that make the light rail system look deeply unserious.
