In 2025, 'politics as usual' has prevailed | The Niner Times

Opponents of Donald Trump have long warned about the threat they believe he poses to American democracy. From his sweeping use of executive orders, defiance of court rulings that do not please him and exploitation of Immigration Customs Enforcement (ICE) as a secret police that targets migrants and, on occasion, American citizens, Trump has challenged every major tenet of our democracy. And yet the Nov. 5 elections, which were pivotal victories for Democrats of various stripes, indicate that the typical ebb and flow of American politics is still intact, and all hope is not lost.
